Meet Afi

I’m a wife, mother, daughter, mathematician, entrepreneur, and coach. I’ve always followed the road less traveled in my life, and I encourage others to do the same.Afi_Harrington_color

As an African-American woman, the statistics are not in my favor to earn a PhD in a mathematical field or start two businesses…but I did! I believe that we’re all destined for greatness and oftentimes we just need to see and talk to someone we relate to in order to recognize our own potential. I use my unique path and experiences to teach, inspire, motivate, and encourage others to follow their own road less traveled.

I have a passion for helping others and a commitment to empowering those I assist with the tools they need to define and reach their goals. I serve as a business advisor to small business owners who need support building a business and a results coach to individuals and organizations looking to clarify what they want, how to get it, and how to overcome mindset obstacles along the way. I support you in assessing your vision, goals, and mindset so that you can create the business and life of your dreams.

My Biography

I’m an accomplished advisor, consultant, entrepreneur, and coach. I have over 20 years of consulting and small business management experience with key expertise in strategic planning, analytics, business operations, process improvement, and small business financial management. I hold a BS in Mathematics from Spelman College and a MOR and PhD in Operations Research from North Carolina State University. I’ve worked for the National Security Agency, The Center for Naval Analyses, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the US Food and Drug Administration providing analytical and consulting expertise.

After years of providing my services as an employee, I tapped into my entrepreneurial spirit and founded an analytical consulting company with two colleagues. I served as a Managing Partner with responsibilities including strategic planning, business development, project and customer relationship management, and internal business operations (finance, HR, IT, and security).

After several years as a small business owner, I transitioned into working directly with other small business owners to achieve their own business successes. I founded AKEA Consulting where I provide small business advisory services and individual and group coaching to empower individuals and organizations with the tools and support to reach new levels of success. I became a Certified Advisor for the Organization for Entrepreneurial Development (OED), a nonprofit educational charity serving entrepreneurs throughout the country. I subsequently affiliated as a Certified Adviser with the Independent Business Alliance (IBA). In this capacity, I support entrepreneurs in analyzing their businesses to identify opportunities for improvement and greater success.

I went on to enroll in Life Coach Training under renowned life coach Martha Beck which equipped me with various tools to support others in identifying, owning, and dissolving their own “stuff” which includes negative thoughts, limiting beliefs, fears, etc. I also became an Accredited Member of the Association of Accredited Small Business Consultants and a YB12™ Corporate Coach.

My consulting, advisory and coach training and experience give me a unique perspective that is vital to my client work. I currently work with business advisory and coaching clients providing exceptional support, guidance, and solutions.
